Who are you?

You are not this body, you are the soul. This body is a medium through which we play different roles assigned to us at different points of time in this drama called ‘life’.
When we stop interfering in this drama and just play our part, we align our will to the will of god. Trying to interfere in the god’s will by asserting our existence leads to consequences that are beyond our control. A recent event in news proves this.

A retired IAS officer was travelling in a public bus in Jaipur. He got into an argument with the bus conductor as he felt that he was charged ten rupees more than the authorized rate. In the video captured by one of the passenger in the bus, it can be seen that the retired bureaucrat slapped the conductor when he was pushed by the conductor.

The bureaucrat lost control because the conductor’s behavior hurt his ego. He felt humiliated because he was conscious of his body and of his identity. He felt that he had to assert his authority as an ex-IAS officer.

The result of his action was not in his control though. The bus conductor thrashed the bureaucrat in front of everyone.

Consider an alternate situation, on being disrespected by the conductor, the bureaucrat complains about it. As tempers rise, the bureaucrat being mindful of the situation tries to diffuse the situation when the conductor refuses to agree with him. On disembarking from the bus, he complains to the authorities so that such events do not occur with other passengers. Having been in coveted posts in the past, his voice is heard by the concerned departments and steps are taken to avoid such a situation in future.

Which of the two situations would you like to be in?

Definitely the second one. It is important to understand that we have to be mindful of our reaction to someone’s actions. We have a right to raise our voice against injustice but it is our duty to ensure that we do not cross the line. In the heat of the moment, we try to enforce our opinion on others and try to force them to toe the line. Instead of trying to change the world, it is important to change ourselves first.

Guru’s love attracts us and inspires us to accept this change in our life. With acceptance of our flaws we move on the path of our transformation.

Wildfires that are destroying cities are everywhere in news, but the fire within us is like a slow poison that kills us gradually. This fire is fueled by the misguided sense of identity. When we identify ourself as a rich, smart, beautiful, intelligent or powerful individual, we are effected by external stimulus like words or actions. A true guru makes us realize of our identity as a pure soul unaffected by anyone or anything. It’s our responsibility to apply guru’s gyan so that we can be the Miracle of Malibu.
